Facebook Shuts Down AI Systems: Chatbots Created their Own Code
Yes. This is indeed an eyebrow-raising news. Facebook had to shut down their Artificial Intelligent System when their Chatbots created their own code for conversation. Chatbots are known to be intelligent programs designed as virtual assistants to simulate conversation over the internet with end users.
Artificial Intelligent (AI) Systems have always been in news for more than a decade because of their unmatched leaning and acting ability. The AI bots are programmed to use plain English as a medium of communication. The two bots Bob and Alice are also not exception to this. In an attempt to observe the conversation performance between Bob and Alice at Facebook AI Research Lab, the two AI bots started communicating in a language which was not English as reported by Tech Times.
Digital Journal reports that the systems were trained to communicate in English, but over a discussion they eventually developed their own code. The systems learnt the code words which seemed illogical to the people witnessing the conversation. But, the bots were conveniently understanding each other leaving humans in an absolutely puzzled state. It was then figured out that chatbots were not programmed to adhere to rules of the English language also understandable by humans.
The corrective action was obvious. The AI systems were shut down and forced to speak to each other only in English language. The actual intention behind these chatbots was to develop interactive robots with the ability to learn from human interactions. Machine learning algorithms follow the principle of learning by doing thereby allowing these dialogue agents to improve their conversational skills while interacting with other agents or human beings. These chatbots are to be utilized in negotiation with end users and are expected to converse fluently in English without the users getting to know that they are not talking with a human being but a robot.
If we look at a part of conversation between Alice and Bob, it demonstrates the newly-invented language by these Artificial Intelligent bots on their own.
Bob: i can i i everything else . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Alice: balls have zero to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to
Bob: you i everything else . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Alice: balls have a ball to me to me to me to me to me to me to me
….
….
The phrases of message exchange gave a feel that either the bots had turned shaky or they became unsteady during conversation.
The CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg and CEO of Tesla Elon Musk were in news recently because of their debate on future of Artificial Intelligence where Elon Musk said that artificial intelligence (AI) was the biggest risk.
Although this is evidence of an upswing for AI, but on the other hand it may be scary. This is not the first incidence that Artificial Intelligence Systems have shocked researchers by behaving unexpectedly. Many experts are afraid that one day AI machines, which are fast learners, can take over humans who are characterized by slow biological maturation.
There is no sufficient information to affirm the unanticipated threat following this incidence, but it is a warning signal to keep the ball in our court instead of letting AI systems to take over the game.
I have learn several good stuff here. Definitely value bookmarking for revisiting. I wonder how much effort you put to make the sort of magnificent informative site.
So cool! I dont suppose Ive learn something like this before. So good to find somebody with some authentic ideas on this subject. realy thanks for starting this up. this web site is one thing that is wanted on the web, someone with a little bit originality. useful job for bringing something new to the web!
